Singapore needs more
blood donors, says the Singapore Red Cross.
More than 350 units of blood are required by all
hospitals here every day. This means at least 450 people must donate daily.
Last year, 67,310 residents made 104,895 donations.
A Health Sciences Authority spokesman said that blood
goes to those having medical emergencies, such as accident victims. It also
goes to patients undergoing operations, cancer patients, and those with blood
disorders like leukaemia.
There is a limit to the number of times a person can
donate blood - three to four times a year.
People can donate blood at the Bloodbank@HSA,
Bloodbank@Woodlands or at a community bloodmobile.
